How to Find Trendy Clothes for Men

If you care about getting stuff that’s on trend, here’s exactly how to get high-quality stuff that’s fashionable.

First, I’ll start off by saying that we have clients who are into trends, and clients who instead prefer more timeless items. Neither is right or wrong.

However, if you choose to ride the waves of fashion trends, realize that you’ll need to buy more clothing and more often to keep up. The tides of what’s in vogue come in and go out, and you’ll need to be prepared to follow them by buying what’s in style regularly.

Personally, I prefer a more timeless approach, but I will methodically work in small doses of fashionable stuff that I like every season. Do whatever makes the most sense for you. Again, there is no right or wrong answer, as long as the clothing looks good on you.

Just remember Pivot maxim #37382: Style does not equal fashion.

Moving on…

When trying to find out what’s fashionable, it’s best for you not to try to predict trends. Instead, we will have someone else do the work for us.

There are people whose entire job revolves around keeping their finger on the pulse: Buyers. And they’re going to be doing the heavy lifting here.

If you don’t know, a Buyer is someone who works in corporate for department stores and boutiques, and decides what to stock in their stores. Their job is a combination of figuring out what will sell well, and forecasting trends (among other things).

Good ones will typically work for higher-end department stores. Here’s how you’re going to utilize them.

Head over to a small handful of department store websites. You’ll need multiple, and they should skew slightly higher end. Start with…

Mr.Porter
Bloomingdale’s
Neiman Marcus
SSENCE

On their site, head over to the “New Arrivals” section. Here, you’ll find all the latest stuff the store Buyers have decided to stock, largely based on what’s fashionable right now, as well as what’s popular.

Scroll around. You might hate some stuff. You might love some stuff. It doesn’t matter. You’re just getting a front row seat to what is on trend.
Now, from here, you can identify some items you might want to add in to your wardrobe.

Of course, it’s another issue to make sure the clothes actually fit, that they’re in the right colors, and play a fundamental role in your wardrobe, but that’s outside of the scope of this email.

If you want more help with stuff like that, that’s where our personal styling comes in - we teach you what looks best on you from your hairstyle to your clothes, and then actually source those clothes for you.

You can learn more here, or, if you want to take a deeper dive with me personally, you can schedule a 20-minute call with me here. We’ll take a look at where your style is at currently and I’ll suggest some improvements. For the time being, this call is free.

I’ll leave you with a few more easy ways to ID what’s trending…

Walk into Zara and have a look at the mannequins. While I don’t love the quality that comes out of Zara, the brand has one of the best abilities to identify what will be trending, and then produce clothing around it. They’re quite literally the most skilled fast fashion brand in the world at doing this. So, walk around and shop visually, but I’d recommend not buying.

If you’re more conservative, but still want to incorporate slightly trending items, look at more conservative stores like J.Crew and Abercrombie. The stores you gather intel from SHOULD be large, mass market brands like this in order to get a feel for where the mass market is trending.

Lastly, you can look at specific Pinterest boards. It’s not enough to search “men’s style”. You’ll come up with too broad of a result. Instead, use the term “fashion” (you recall these are different, right?) and add the year. “Men’s Fashion 2025” will give you more current, trending results.

Again, I can’t stress enough that you don’t have to do this, unless you’re someone who wants to follow trends. However, it’s good to keep your finger on the pulse.

In general, I recommend figuring out what style YOU like by identifying some photos on Pinterest, Google Images, Movies, TV, whatever, and then working off of that. Then, once you get that stuff to actually fit you, you’re golden.

Hope this helps.

x Patrick
