SPRING CLOTHING STAPLES FOR MEN

CNN contacted me recently, asking for insight into a few spring items every guy should own.

Until that email, I had forgotten spring is right around the corner.

But lo and behold, it's time to start shedding those heavy layers and have a bit of fun.

However, many guys have difficulty dressing in the slightly warmer months.

So to help, here are some items I'd suggest adding to your spring wardrobe.

A TEXTURED POLO

Something with a bit of texture, ideally in a lighter Merino Wool.

The one pictured above is a long sleeve (which I love) from Todd Snyder, with a similar option in  short sleeves.

The idea here is to work away from those stodgy golf polos and into something more elevated. However, there's always room for a classic Pique Polo like this if you don't have one already (Uniqlo quality is off the charts for basics).

AN OVERSHIRT

An overshirt is a layering piece that isn't quite as heavy as a jacket, making it perfect for spring.

Throw an overshirt on over a white tee, and you've instantly got yourself a cool spring fit. This one above is from Wax London, a go-to for overshirts for my clients. I also like this classically cool lightweight denim number from Double RL made with a little linen to keep it light. I could spend hours browsing Double RL.

A PAIR OF DECK SHOES

Classic deck shoes are perfect for spring/summer. These ones above are the Vans 44DX - a high-quality throwback to their original authentic deck shoe.

"DIFFERENT" CHINOS

Your eyes aren't deceiving you - them’s cargo pants right there.

If you've been paying attention, both cargo pants and pleats have been having a moment in menswear. At some point, you've probably heard your favorite menswear blogger rail against such details.

Here's why this time around it's different - both the cargo pockets and pleats on these newer trousers aren't bulky. The problem previously was these details made your legs look like balloons. Now, we're still keeping things nice and clean, but with a subtle little detail.

I dig it.

I'm tired of seeing everyone where the same flat-front chinos with no diversity. These add a subtle dash of style to the overall outfit. But, if you're averse, here's a classic version.

The ones above are from Banana Republic. I've been impressed with their offerings as of late (but they've upped their price tags to go along with that). Both J. Crew and Banana Republic have been putting on a show lately and it's great to see that these brands aren't going anywhere.

Hey, look, we put together an outfit. Isn't that neat?

Consider grabbing something in each of these categories to help you transition into Spring.
